Sonia Ellis of Encinitas Country Day School was one of many students who made signs of “Helping Hands” with names of their favorite service projects and decorated T-shirts with gold and silver hand prints. The school was awarded third place for “Best Use of Lights” in the 2010 Encinitas Holiday Parade. The float was designed by seventh-grade students and brought to life by ECDS families with the guidance of parent Susan Bachand. It depicted a snowy winter scene with lights and a video photo montage of ECDS students performing various community service projects. Girl Scout Troops No. 1686 and No.1113 walked behind the float dressed as “gifts” of service and all other students carried “helping hand” signs. Courtesy photo
