Oceanographer and racing boat captain Charles Moore, founder of the institute, will speak about his research, his 2012 trip to Japan and his many voyages to the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, a swirl of plastic soup in the Northern Pacific Ocean.

The Algalita Marine Research Institute is moving full speed ahead on research investigating plastic pollution and its impact on the marine environment and the human food chain. Moore and his organization are seeking solutions to the increasing problem including the reduction in packaging materials and waste generation. For more information, visit
