VISTA — The Friends of the Rancho Buena Vista Adobe recently acquired a historic windmill from Vista resident Kirk L. Richardson, whose family has ties to Rancho Guajome. The 1929 Aermotor is from the home of the Ball Family, early Vista settlers. It is believed that the Ball family farm was built in the 1880s at 2261 Edgehill in Vista. The Victorian residence and classic redwood shingled barn on the property were built sometime around 1884, and was contemporary with the addition of the Rancho Buena Vista’s largest room, the Sala.
The new windmill has been placed in the orchard area of Rancho Buena Vista and replaces an old windmill that formerly adorned the property.
