RANCHO SANTA FE — Golfers and sponsors are being sought for the second annual Operation Game On Golf Classic set for Aug. 15 at Morgan Run Club & Resort, 5690 Cancha de Golf in Rancho Santa Fe.
Proceeds will benefit Operation Game On, a golf rehabilitation program that provides lessons, specially fitted clubs, reduced green fees and playing opportunities for returning combat-injured troops.
It is available to soldiers returning from Operation Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom with physical and mental challenges who are going through rehabilitation at Naval Medical Center San Diego.
Lessons are given by PGA-certified instructors at the Del Mar Golf Center. Tony Perez, a Rancho Santa Fe resident who started the program in 2008, established the Freedom Golf Network, a partnership with several courses throughout the
county that allows participants to play for a reduced rate.
According to Perez, Operation Game On helps injured warriors “get back into the swing of things.”
A variety of sponsorships are available ranging from $200 for a tee box other than on par-3 holes to $25,000. A $1,000 donation will sponsor four active-duty military members to play in the tournament.
For $25,000 the title sponsor will receive golf for eight the day of the tournament, another free round of golf for eight, a full fitting for eight at TaylorMade’s Kingdom Fitting Studio, lunch, dinner with eight guests, signage, gifts, media promotion and other recognition.
Registration and a putting contest will begin at 9 a.m., followed by the opening ceremony at 10 a.m. that will include a presentation of colors and military appreciation. Shotgun play starts at 11 a.m.
Evening events include cocktails and dinner, a silent auction, awards, a raffle and guest speakers. The goal is to raise at least $75,000.
