Girl stabbed; other teen in custody

OCEANSIDE — A 14-year-old girl was walking to school with friends, when she was confronted by an acquaintance and stabbed repeatedly in the alley of the 700 block of Mission Avenue at 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 10.
An argument broke out between the victim and the female suspect before the stabbing. After the attack the suspect fled the scene.
The victim went to a nearby business for help and was flown to a trauma center. She is expected to recover.
The incident was not random, but has not been classified as gang-related. “They knew each other,” Lt. Leonard Mata, of the Oceanside Police Department administrative services unit, said. “It doesn’t appear to be a random attack.”
The 15-year-old suspect was arrested for attempted murder several hours after the stabbing and taken to Juvenile Hall. Both girls are students of Ocean Shores High School, which is located approximately 3.5 miles east of where the attack took place.
