SAN MARCOS — Palomar College’s MEChA, Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan, Alumni and Friends group is sponsoring a kick-off scholarship dinner at 6 p.m. Aug. 22 at the home of Liam and Gloria O’Shea, at 3397 Hollowtree Drive in Oceanside.
Money raised at the event will go toward the Sean O’Shea Scholarship, honoring the memory of the O’Shea’s son Sean, who was a former Palomar College student and president of MEChA.
“With this special event, we will celebrate Sean’s inspirational life and raise funds for MEChA student members in need of financial assistance,” Gloria O’Shea said.
The event will feature a silent auction and raffle, guest speakers, food provided by local restaurants, and entertainment. Musicians to perform include Edgar Olivares, Aldo Vega and Analia Romero.
A donation of $25 per person is suggested. Advance reservations are preferred, but not required. For more information, contact Gloria O’Shea at (760) 966-0987 or Palomar College professor John Valdez at (760) 744-1150, ext. 2219.
