ENCINITAS — Friends and musicians are gathering for a benefit being held for local musician Steve White from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Encinitas Community Room at the Encinitas Library, 540 Cornish Drive.
White has been battling cancer and had to have his vocal chords removed, a blow to the world-touring musician. Performers will include Jack Tempchin, Dave Pike, Candye Kane, Nathan James, Semisi & FulaBula, Zosia, Kev Rones and additional surprise guests.
“Steve has been perfecting his acoustic one-man band show for over 40 years and anyone who has ever seen him perform would agree that the experience shows,” friend Danny Salzhandler said.
Tickets are $25 or $50 for VIP seating. Refreshments and local cuisine are included in the ticket price, provided by the Fish Market in Del Mar and the Beach Grass Cafe in Solana Beach.
Tickets are being distributed through Buffalo Brothers Guitars in Carlsbad. For more information, call (760) 434-4567 or e-mail steve@stevemendozamusic.com. For more information about Steve White, visit stevewhiteblues.com.
White made Encinitas his home in 1989 and would perform weekly for hours on end at the Seaside Bazaar behind the train station every weekend simply because he wanted to “work on his sound.” White also has a standing gig at a local retirement home blending his talents into community service.
White has been, in his own words, “a street musician, an actor, portrait painter, flower vendor, maintenance worker, house painter, landscaper, saloon singer and songwriter….lived in mansions, motels, bushes and bread trucks.”
