Free environmental events planned

ENCINITAS — A series of free environmental events are being hosted by the Solana Center for Environmental Innovation this fall.
California Coastal Cleanup Day is set from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 19 at Swamis Beach in Encinitas. The day will be co-sponsored by the city of Encinitas. Register at www.cleanupday.org. Two Electronic Waste collections are scheduled. The collections are set from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 26 and Nov. 15 at the Solana Center, 137 N. El Camino Real in Encinitas, The center is just past the Sheriff’s substation at Via Molena. They plan to take just about anything with a cord. This event is also co-sponsored by the city of Encinitas.
Compost workshops begin from 8 to 10 a.m. Sept. 26 at the San Diego Zoo Otto entrance (one block south of main entrance) and registration is limited to 25. Another is set from 10 a.m. to noon at Quail Botanical Gardens, 230 Quail Gardens Drive in Encinitas,
Compost bins will be on sale Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Encinitas location of Solana Center. Several cities subsidize the cost of the bins for the residents. See www.solanacenter.org for information.
