Family makes giving a tradition

CARLSBAD — Consider a very special and very local way to give this holiday. For the ninth year, the Wankier family of La Costa, joined by neighbors and friends, will be hosting a special Christmas Open House at 6 p.m. Dec. 6 to decorate a Christmas tree for the Family Recovery Center, a residential treatment program for mothers and their children.

There are 33 children with Christmas wishes. Contact Susan Wingate Wankier at (760) 390-3850 now if you would like to be a Secret Santa. Children range from unborn to 11 years old. Call for a name/age/Santa wish.

They will also be collecting women’s cosmetics (all need to be alcohol-free) to deliver to the center’s mothers.

“Last year, we collectively surprised 19 first graders with Christmas gifts at Monarch School, and raised more than $600 in gift cards for other families without homes,” Wankier said. “Let’s do it again this year.”
