Family initiates tradition of volunteering

COAST CITIES — Carlsbad resident Olivia Hamrick and her family walked for the Rady’s Children’s Hospital at Sea World Oct. 4. Rady Children’s is a nonprofit hospital which depends on the community to help fund critically needed care and services. Olivia raised $683, which will purchase 13,660 bandages or 13 chest X-rays or six autism counseling sessions.
“I’m really glad I got to help the sick kids,” Hamrick said as the walk ended. Her mom agreed. “This is our new family tradition. We’ve never had to use the hospital for more than the emergency room, but we want to help the families that do.” Check out shamuandyouwalk.kintera.org for more information on how to help.
