NORTH COUNTY — Several North County coastal companies were recently honored for ethical business practices with a Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics award from the San Diego Better Business Bureau. Categories were based on number of employees.
They included Major League Heating & Air Conditioning Inc of Oceanside, in the one-to-four category, Pelican Glass Inc of Carlsbad, in the five-to-10 category, and San Diego County Credit Union in the over-500-employee category.
With more than 25 years of industry experience, Major League Heating & Air Conditioning provides dependable service and quality products to San Diego, South Orange County and South Riverside counties. Starting Major League from their garage in 2002, Anthony Shute and wife Jeannie Shute have built the business from the ground up.
Pelican Glass is a full-service window company that has been serving the North County areas since the 1980s. In 2002, Pelican Glass had a change of ownership with Timothy Skeer acquiring the company. As a former manager of Milgard Windows & Doors, Skeer has restructured the company and improved customer service, the BBB said.
SDCCU, with branches in Encinitas, Carlsbad and Solana Beach, was the only financial institution recognized.
Now in its 12th year, the Torch Awards is the BBB’s annual awards program that honors outstanding local for profit companies and nonprofit charitable organizations that have demonstrated a commitment to ethical business practices, both in operations and in terms of being ethical, reliable and responsive to employees, vendors and customers, according to Sheryl Bilbrey, San Diego BBB president and CEO.
