NBCSandiego.com reports that the southbound lanes of I-5 and the Coronado bridge were shut down the morning of May 2 after CHP found what they suspected was a pipe bomb just north of the bridge’s on-ramp.
The pipe was found on the southbound shoulder of the freeway just after 8:30 p.m. according to Lt. Hassen of the San Diego Police Department.
Officers called the bomb squad to come out and evaluate the device, as they are on alert following Osama Bin Laden’s death.
It was determined that the device was not hazardous and possibly fell off a passing vehicle.
The southbound lanes were reopened before 10 a.m.
