Controlled burn July 2

Wildland controlled burn held July 2

OCEANSIDE — On the afternoon of July 2, the Oceanside Fire Department will be conducting a vegetation management burn on 13 acres of vacant property adjacent to the Oceanside Municipal Airport. The area to be burned is north of the runway and is bordered by Alex Road and the Deutsch Company premises. The purpose of the burn is to remove unwanted vegetation from the property, as well as provide valuable live fire training opportunities for firefighters. This property has been cleared of vegetation each of the past several years, either by mowing or disking and was the site of a smaller burn project in 2007. The project and training activities will be supervised by Oceanside Fire Department Battalion Chief Peter Lawrence.
The date and time are subject to change due to weather conditions and Air Pollution Control District rules concerning approved burn days. There will be no impact to airport operations during the project.
