Construction worker killed in industrial accident

OCEANSIDE — On Tuesday morning the Oceanside Police department Communications Center began receiving 911 calls regarding an industrial accident at 1402 Avenida del Oro.

Oceanside fire and police personnel responded to the site, a large vacant area currently under construction to be used in the future as the FedEx distribution center.

While workers were working in the northeast corner of the site, a large concrete slab called a “head wall” fell on one of the workers and crushed him. Co-workers immediately used a nearby crane to remove the slab and began life-saving measures. Oceanside Fire personnel arrived and took over the life-saving measures, but the person was declared dead at the scene.

The victim was described as a white male in his mid-50s. His name is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.

Co-workers were offered assistance from the Trauma Intervention Program.
