Community hosts tree lighting, food fest

SAN MARCOS — Forgot the cookies and hot chocolate. This year’s San Elijo Hills Holiday Tree Lighting has morphed into a culinary extravaganza with 20 gourmet food trucks parked around the community’s Town Square, serving around-the-world delicacies ranging from sushi to sweet potato fries and Mexican-Korean barbecue fusions to Indian curries.
The Dec. 3 Foodie Fest and Tree Lighting event will start with a happy hour at 4 p.m. at surrounding eateries. The culinary feast on wheels will take place from 5 to 8:30 p.m. and the annual tree lighting will start at 7 p.m. Throughout the evening there will be holiday entertainment and festive crafts for kids.
“This is a great opportunity to take part in a fun food craze, while you kick off the holiday season and meet up with neighbors and friends,” said Halé Richardson, director of marketing and communications for San Elijo Hills, which is organizing this gastronomical assortment of four-wheeled eateries. “Bring an appetite and cash, since these rolling restaurants don’t take credit,” she said, adding that most menu items will be in the $3 to $10 range.
Five San Diego trucks will participate in the San Elijo Hills Foodie Fest: Tabe BBQ, Asian/Mexican fusion; MIHO Gastro Truck, gourmet farm-to-tale fare; Dave de Jour, international street food; Joes on the Nose coffee drinks and Sweet Treats deserts.
