SAN MARCOS — Palomar College alumna Barbara Schettler-Jehl, of Escondido, was honored at the college’s May 21 commencement ceremonies as 2010 Alumna of the Year.
A 1972 graduate of Palomar College, Schettler-Jehl will be recognized for her active involvement in the community and for her spirit of helping others, which has defined her life for many years.
After graduating from Palomar College, Schettler-Jehl went on to receive her Bachelor of Science degree in Dental Hygiene from the University of California at San Francisco. She then returned to Escondido, where she volunteered for several years at the Escondido Community Clinic, helping those who wanted to change their smile.
In addition to pursuing her interest in promoting dental health, Schettler-Jehl has been actively involved in the Scouting organization for nearly 30 years, serving as a Girl Scout leader, a Brownie leader and a Cub Scout leader.
