CARLSBAD — The city of Carlsbad will begin construction of needed safety improvements on two bridges on Palomar Airport Road, one over Carlsbad Boulevard and the other over North County Transit District railroad tracks, just west of Avenida Encinas.
During construction from mid-October to mid-December, the bridges will be closed in both directions, 24 hours a day until the project is complete. Traffic will be detoured onto Avenida Encinas both north and south.
The city’s contractor, Truesdell Corporation, will make repairs to the bridges where the concrete is cracked and crumbling. The repairs will extend the life of the bridge by using products that prevent corrosion and applying a treatment to the concrete deck.
City staff reminds the public to drive carefully in the construction zone and take alternate routes when possible. Signs will be posted around the construction site to inform the public of the road closure.
The total construction cost is $647,647. The project is included in the city’s Capital Improvement Program budget and is part of the city’s commitment to investing in infrastructure. Contact Construction Manager Casey Arndt at (760) 602-2780, ext. 7320, for questions about the project.
