SAN MARCOS — The city of San Marcos Community Services will sponsor an interpretive event featuring solar energy displays at Jack’s Pond Park on Aug. 7. Participants will learn about solar energy with hands-on activities, including sun art. The San Diego Solar Cooking Club will demonstrate cooking techniques using the sun’s energy and will display several solar cooker designs. Free plans will be available for those with an interest in building their own solar cooker.
The event, which begins at 9 a.m. and will run continuously until 1 p.m., is recommended for ages 4 and up. Jack’s Pond Park is located at 986 La Moree Road in San Marcos. There is a $3 charge per person. RSVP to (760) 744-9000, ext. 3508.
