City sponsors hike to explore Ridgeline Trails

SAN MARCOS — The city of San Marcos Community Services will sponsor a Discover San Marcos Hike to Cerro de las Posas and Double Peak Park on at 9 a.m. March 5. Hikers will get plenty of aerobic exercise on this difficult, 6-mile hike. The hike offers overlooks of Lake San Marcos and views of the coastline. There will be steep climbs with an elevation gain of 500 feet. The ridgeline is relatively flat, and there is a 500-foot descent back to San Elijo Park.
Hikers will meet at San Elijo Park, 1105 Elfin Forest Road, in the Recreation Center parking lot. The hike is free and participants can sign up for the hike at 8:30 a.m. The hike is subject to cancellation in the event of rain.
