Checkpoint nets three DUI arrests

SAN MARCOS — A DUI checkpoint was conducted on March 17 at the 1600 block of San Elijo Road, and more than 1,500 motorists passed through.
The theme to the St. Patrick’s Day checkpoint was Friends Don’t Let Friends Drive Drunk, and three arrests were made of people who were caught driving under the influence of alcohol, according to Sgt. J. T. Rothlein, of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.
Of the 1,510 vehicles that went through the checkpoint, 1,049 were contacted in the inspection area, 23 were sent for a second inspection, 22 vehicles were impounded, 19 citations were given to drivers driving without a license, two citations were issued to individuals for driving while their license was revoked or suspended and one provisional driver was cited for a violation.
The operation was provided by the AVOID 14 DUI Task Force, which includes 14 law enforcement agencies in the county. The campaign aims to crackdown on drivers who drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
