Chabad at La Costa celebrates Chanukah

LA COSTA — Rabbi Yeruchem Eilfort, of the newly remodeled Chabad at La Costa, 1980 La Costa Ave., Carlsbad, noted the congregaton has moved into the new month of Kislev. Friday night services are at 4:30 p.m. and Chanukah begins Dec. 16.

The Chabad will host a Giant Menorah Lighting at 4 p.m. Dec. 18 at The Forum Shops, 1923 Calle Barcelona, Carlsbad (in front of the dolphin statue)

There will be a Movie Pajama Party in the new building at Chabad from 7 to 9 p.m. Dec. 20 for youngsters 5 to 12), complete with popcorn and hot chocolate. RSVP to (760) 943-8891 or e-mail  HYPERLINK “mailto:[email protected][email protected].

From 4 to 7 p.m. Dec. 20, will be a Chanukah Extravaganza at Plaza Camino Real ‚with a Giant Menorah Lighting live entertainment including Chanukah characters, juggling, magic, music, prizes, arts and crafts, Chanukah jelly doughnuts and latkes. Call (760) 943-8891 or e-mail [email protected] for further information.

“It’s a warm month, conjuring up memories of Chanukah candles, sizzling latkes, and family moments around the Chanukah menorah,” Eilfort said. “Chanukah is an easy holiday to celebrate. All you need to do is light an additional candle each night for eight nights, recite the appropriate blessings, and you’ve done it. That’s why Chanukah is a perfect holiday to share with Jewish coworkers, neighbors or anyone else you happen to meet.”

Thanks went to the Joseph, Brunelle, and Alter Families, for a commercial-grade kitchen being installed at the newly remodeled Chabad.

“Those who have been to our shul know very well how great the food has been over the years,” Eilfort said. “The miracles wrought by our Kiddush team, led by Naomi Alter, has been accomplished despite the kitchen. Just imagine what they will be able to produce in a properly outfitted kitchen.”

The Chabad is still about $60,000 short of funds needed to pay for all of the items remaining to achieve occupancy. There are plans to add benches in the breezeway, a decorative fountain in front, and a mural on the inside of the dome.

Join Rabbi Eilfort for the JLI series, “How Happiness Thinks” which meets each Tuesday at 7 p.m. The series helps participants to adjust their perspective in ways that will help them achieve a higher HQ (Happiness Quotient).
