CARLSBAD — Rabbi Yeruchem Eilfort, of North County Jewish Center and Chabad at La Costa has announced a “Grand Chanukah Wonderland” to be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Dec. 1 in Plaza Camino Real, lower level inside, in front of Sears near the Playtown at Westfield Plaza Camino Real, 2525 El Camino Real.The event is open to the entire community at no charge. Come and participate in the Giant Menorah lighting ceremony and numerous family-friendly activities. Planning for this holiday mega event started months ago in conjunction with Karyn Houde, marketing director of the mall.
Planned activities include numerous Chanukah-themed arts-and-craft projects (like the opportunity to build a take-home Menorah), sand art, clay sculpting and more. There will also be music, and for the first time ever, a Potato Mash March – so named in honor of the potato pancakes (latkes) traditionally enjoyed as part of the holiday celebrations.
There will be Chanukah characters on hand to interact with the children. There will also be Chanukah delicacies like jelly doughnuts and homemade latkes and applesauce. Clowns, face-painting, juggling and magic will round-out the live entertainment. Everyone present will have the chance to win one of several raffle prizes.
