Carlsbad shares state of the city

CARLSBAD — For 2009’s annual State of the City luncheon, the focus of discussion will revolve around the city’s commitment to economic, environmental and social sustainability.
Hosted by the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce, the event will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 28 at the Four Seasons Resort Aviara, 7100 Four Seasons Point. During the luncheon, attendees will watch a video featuring Mayor Bud Lewis, the City Council and city staff members.
Highlights of the video include an overview of the city’s strategy for managing through the recession and an update on new environmental initiatives, such as renewable energy. Community partnerships, including Envision Carlsbad, and local economic stimulus initiatives, also will be featured.
“From managing our water supply to finding new, more efficient ways to manage city resources, the choices we are making today will shape the future quality of life for our residents and the prosperity of our business community,” Lewis said. “We’re all in this together, and that is why citizen participation has never been more important.”
Carlsbad Chamber members who register by Aug. 7 will receive a discounted price of $50 per ticket; non-members will receive a discounted price of $60 per ticket. After Aug. 7, tickets are $60 for chamber members and $65 for non-members.
The deadline to register for the event is Aug. 21. For more information or to purchase tickets, call (760) 931-8400 or visit www.carlsbad.org.
