Carlsbad seeks new council member

CARLSBAD — Be part of the future of your city. The Carlsbad City Council is seeking applications from residents interested in fulfilling the term of a vacant City Council position that expires in November 2014.

The position became vacant Feb. 7 when City Council Member Farrah Douglas resigned due to personal and family commitments. In Carlsbad, when a vacancy occurs in an elected office, the City Council may within 60 days of the vacancy call a special election or fill the vacancy by appointment. At the Feb. 11 meeting, the council voted to fill the position by appointment.

City Council members must be at least 18, live in Carlsbad and be registered to vote in Carlsbad.

At the March 11 City Council meeting, each qualified applicant will be asked to make a three-minute presentation to the council. The applicants may then be asked to respond to questions from the council regarding their presentations or applications. The council members will either make a decision at this meeting or direct staff to place the matter on a future agenda for action.
