Carlsbad library stays busy during holidays

CARLSBAD — The community is invited to join the celebration at 7 p.m. Dec. 8 for the release of the library’s 22nd annual Magee Park Poets Poetry Anthology. The event will feature a free poetry reading at the Carlsbad City Library’s Ruby G. Schulman Auditorium, 1775 Dove Lane. For more information, call (760) 602-2012.
The library will host an open reading by poets whose poems are featured in this year’s anthology. Poets from around San Diego County submitted poems for the anthology and more than 60 poems have been selected. The anthology will be available for purchase for $5. Following the reading, attendees are invited to a reception in the library’s Gowland Meeting Room. Admission to the reading and reception is free.
Then at 7 p.m. Dec. 16, Carlsbad City Library will welcome Victor Villaseñor, local author of “Rain of Gold.” Villaseñor will give a talk and sign his books at the Dove Library, 1775 Dove Lane. Villaseñor is a writer whose writes of his youth in North County and has brought Mexican-American culture and literature to a wide audience. He is the author of “ Burro Genius” (2004), “Rain of Gold” (1991) and “Thirteen Senses: A Memoir” (2002). His other nonfiction works include “Crazy Loco Love” (2008), “Wild Steps of Heaven” (1995), “Jury: The People vs. Juan Corona” (1976), and the screenplay for “The Ballad of Gregorio Cortez.” Villaseñor lives in Oceanside, where he continues to write.
