Carlsbad High School plans annual alumni baseball game

CARLSBAD — The Carlsbad High School Baseball Booster Club will host the second annual Carlsbad Home Run Derby and Alumni Game event with the first pitch for the Alumni Game at 11 a.m. Feb. 13 at Carlsbad High School.
The Carlsbad Home Run Derby will begin with 8-year-olds at 8 a.m. and conclude with an open division at 11 a.m. Afterwards Carlsbad’s Winter Varsity Squad will square off against an alumni team lead by Head Coach Chris Greene. The event is a fundraiser for the Carlsbad High School Baseball program with all proceeds directly benefiting the nonprofit Booster Club.
The Home Run Derby entry fee is $20. All entrants receive a commemorative T-shirt, doughnut or hot dog, a drink and a raffle ticket. The champion of each division will receive a trophy and first-through-third place finishers get gold, sliver and bronze T-shirts. There are age appropriate “fences” and seven divisions: 8-and-under, 10-and-under, 12-and-under, 14-and-under, 16-and-under, 18-and-under and Open. Alumni team invitees include legendary Ralph Cripe, former Major League Baseball players Scott Karl and Brady Anderson, power hitter John Talley, Palomar Head Coach Buck Taylor, Coach Chris Greene, the Frazee brothers, Keegan Moore, Jordan Szabo, Gabe Jasmer, Sean Refuse, Leif Palmquist, Nate Duarte, Danny Carafa and all of the 2010 graduates.
Funds will be used to help achieve the club’s mission of enhancing the environment of Carlsbad High School Baseball with emphasis on community, education, sportsmanship, facility and equipment upgrades and fun.
