Carlsbad athletes cross triathlon finish line in fine form

CARLSBAD — Her dominance continued on Sunday as Michellie Jones of Carlsbad took home an unprecedented 11th victory at the 35th annual Carlsbad Triathlon.

Jones, 46, crossed the finish line in 1 hour, 16 minutes and 7 seconds to capture another title in the elite division.

The Australian native who now lives in the city, came in ahead of Susanne Davis, 30, of Carlsbad (1:23:45), Jenny Perrottet, 36, of San Diego (1:24:44), Kelsey Baker, 25, of Carlsbad (1:26:07) and Rachel Hayes, 40, of Coronado (1:36:34).

In the men’s elite division, Robby Webster, 26, of Tacoma, Wash., took first with a time of 1:10:24. Webster, who trains at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, will compete in the Rotterdam Tri Championships in Holland in two weeks.

Following Webster were Dylan Sorensen, 26, of Whitestown, Ind. (1:11:40), Andrew Shore, 34, of Carlsbad (1:12:26), Ryan Hardy, 31, of Scottsdale, Ariz. (1:13:23), and Casey Bateman, 25, of San Diego (1:13:41).

The sprint triathlon included a one-kilometer ocean swim, a 25K bike course and a 5K run to the finish line.
