Canyon Crest Academy combines people, puppets on stage

 

COAST CITIES — Canyon Crest Academy High School’s Envision Theatre invites all to its production of “Avenue Q – School Edition,” – part flesh, part felt – March 21 through March 30 at the Canyon Crest Proscenium Theater, 5951 Village Center Loop Road, San Diego.Show times are at 7 p.m. March 21, March 22, March 23 March 29 and March 30 and at 4 p.m. March 28. Tickets are $18 pre-sale and $20 at the door. Tickets can be purchased online at cca-envision.org/events.html.

The student cast includes Hunter Schwarz Alison Norwood, Julian Coker, Emmy Farese, Elliot Rappaport, Alex Waxler, Jerrin Padre, Brooke Patterson, Grace Condon, Ben Sutton, Talia Goodman, Julia Vanderwiel, Steve Macario, Kion Heidari, Nicole Belinsky, Jess Tierney, Josh Guichert, Halle Hoffman and Mandy Wirt.

The ensemble also includes Nicole Belinsky, Ammagrace Chang, Marin Ross, Talia Goodman, Kion Heidari, Halle Hoffman, Kristin Knox, Steve Macario, Katherine Michel, Alexi Stein, Jacob Surovsky, Jess Tierney, Julia Vanderwiel and Mandy Wirt. Stage Manager is Patrick McClanahan with Assistant Stage Manager Beatriz Pereira.

Winner of the Tony for best musical, best score and best book, “Avenue Q” tells the story of a recent college grad named Princeton who moves into a shabby New York apartment all the way out on Avenue Q. He soon discovers that this is not your ordinary neighborhood. It is recommended for mature audiences.

Guest director Dana Carr is a 36-year theater veteran in the North County community and directed/choreographed several productions for Mission Hills High School and recently directed/choreographed “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” for Oceanside Theater Company. Musical direction is by Stephanie Sabin.

Music and lyrics are by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, with book by Jeff Whitty, based on an original concept by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx. “Avenue Q School Edition” is presented through special arrangements with Musical Theatre International (MTI).
