CARLSBAD — Cadets at the Army and Navy Academy faced one of their most grueling evaluations while enrolled at the Academy — the Cadet Federal Inspection on Dec. 7. Formerly referred to as the Annual Formal Inspection, this major evaluation of all phases of the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps program is conducted each year by the United States Army Cadet Command.
In addition to evaluating the Academy’s JROTC program, one of the primary purposes of this mandatory inspection is to identify those units qualified as Merit Unit, Honor Unit, and Honor Unit with Distinction.
Army and Navy Academy again received an outstanding score of 99.4 percent, entitling the school to be recognized again as an Honor Unit with Distinction.
With this prestigious award, the Academy’s Senior Army Instructor, Maj. Mike Basista, is authorized to nominate three to five cadets for each of the major military academies prior to the academy’s 100th commencement ceremony to be held June 4, 2011. Since its inception in 1971, ANA has achieved this highest rating every year except one.
