CARLSBAD — Just before 1 a.m. June 13, the Carlsbad Police Department received several calls about gunshots being heard at the Marriott Residence Inn, 2000 Faraday Ave. in what may have been a gang-related fracas.
When officers arrived, they found a large group of people fleeing the scene on foot and in cars. Further investigation determined that a fight had taken place in front of the motel, with one of the combatants pulling out a handgun and firing it into the front of the motel. The men involved in the fight were described as being between 18 and 21, medium height and weight.
No one was injured from the shot and it apparently prompted the fight to stop and the subjects to flee. Officers spoke with several people at the hotel, including documented members of an Oceanside gang and suspected gang members visiting from Long Beach. No victims or suspects were located. The investigation is ongoing.
