Bicyclist struck by car

ENCINITAS — A bicyclist was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Coast Highway 101 and Encinitas Boulevard Wednesday afternoon.
The bicyclist, whose name was not released, is an Encinitas resident in his mid-40s. He was flown to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla to be treated for a broken arm and lacerations, according to San Diego Sheriff Deputy M. Carpenter.
The accident occurred at approximately 1 p.m. At this time, it is unclear how the accident happened, though Carpenter said alcohol played no factor. A witness reported to authorities that the bicyclist might have been attempting a U-turn from the S. Coast Highway, to the north bound when a Honda Civic traveling north struck the rider, said Carpenter.
