Bicycle traffic skills course offered

COAST CITIES — The San Diego County Bicycle Coalition will offer a monthly Bicycle Traffic Skills Course in 2011. The class consists of two portions; participants will receive in-class instruction and then will test their knowledge, as well as learn hands-on skills, in an on-road portion.
In-class theory will be offered at 6 p.m. Jan. 21, Feb. 18, March 18, April 22, May 20, June 17, July 15, Aug. 19, Sept. 16, Oct. 21, Nov. 18 and Dec. 9 at the Oceanside Library conference room, 300 N. Coast Highway 101.
The class will cover proper bike safety tips for riding in traffic, techniques for navigating road hazards, emergency maneuvers, locking your bike, using public transit and cyclists’ legal rights. There will also be hands-on instruction in flat-tire repair, adjustments, minor repairs and quick fixes.
Led by a League of American Cyclist certified instructor, the on-road portion will be offered at 8 a.m. Jan. 29, Feb. 26, March 26, April 30, May 28, June 25, July 23, Aug. 27, Sept. 24, Oct. 29, Dec. 3
and Dec. 17, with locations determined by the instructors,
