Authorities ID two women killed in four-vehicle wreck In Vista

VISTA — Authorities have identified two women who were killed in a four vehicle crash on state Route 76 in Vista.

Maria del Carmen Rodriguez, 48, and 25-year-old Stephanie Rodriguez, both of Santa Ana, were killed around 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 21 when the 2018 Hyundai Sonata they were in stopped for traffic at the intersection and was struck from behind by a 40-year-old man driving a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado pickup eastbound on state Route 76 near East Vista Way, according to the California Highway Patrol and the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The impact sent the Hyundai into the back of a 2016 Mazda SUV, which then struck the back of a 2016 Ford Fusion, the CHP said.

Firefighters arrived and extricated Maria Rodriguez, who was driving the Hyundai, and Stephanie Rodriguez, who was a passenger in the Hyundai, but both women were pronounced dead at the scene, the Medical Examiner’s Office reported.

A man, who was also a passenger in the Hyundai, was transported to Palomar Medical Center with major injuries, the CHP said.

The occupants of the Ford and the Mazda were uninjured. The Chevrolet driver remained at the scene and intoxication was not believed to have been a factor in the crash, the CHP said.
