CARLSBAD — ArtSplash has found a whole new medium with a charitable twist.
A fast-paced, six-minute, time-lapse video highlighting the creation of a colorful “Alice in Wonderland” collage out of donated apparel, created at the Carlsbad ArtSplash community celebration for arts education Sept. 25 and Sept. 26, can be viewed at http://padillabowen.com/wordpress/?p=314.
Hundreds of pieces of gently used men’s, women’s and children’s clothing, shoes and accessories were artistically fashioned by the Studio 2 team of Ron Juncal and Phyllis Swanson into a 20-foot-by-20-foot image from the famous children’s book during the two-day festival on Armada Drive. After the event, the artwork was dismantled and the apparel was donated to North County Community Services for distribution to those in need.
The video was created by Nathan Padilla-Bowen in conjunction with Ron Juncal. The musical accompaniment was compliments of legendary surf musician Paul Johnson.

“Mark your calendars now for ArtSplash 2011. The team is already planning new arts and entertainment features sure to delight event-goers of all ages,” Swanson said.
