OCEANSIDE — An exhibition by local artist Ed Coonce will celebrate the Sept. 18 opening of A Word With You Press Creative Arts Loft, 802 Tremont St.
The art exhibit begins at 11 a.m. Sept. 18, with a reception for the artist from 2 to 5 p.m. Sept. 19. Coonce will discuss his work, which has been featured at various galleries in Los Angeles and San Diego County.
Thornton Sully, founder of A Word With You Press Creative Arts Loft, explained that even before its official opening, A Word With You studio has been a catalyst in reviving a blighted downtown block of Wisconsin Avenue, near Coast Highway 101.
“We began renovating the building, which was essentially a shell, painting and landscaping the exterior, and the spirit really caught on with the surrounding businesses,” he said.
Following the week-long exhibit of Coonce’s art, the A Word With You Press will be open as a hub for local writers and visual artists to present their work and develop their talents. The loft will conduct on-going writer workshops, open mic nights, and book signings, as well as serve as a publishing house.
The center also will host KidXpress a one-on-one mentoring program that will pair youngsters with a passion for words, but lacking in confidence, with established local writers who volunteer their time and talent. KidXpress will commence this fall.
