Armed robbery near La Costa movie theater

CARLSBAD — At approximately 6:42 p.m. Oct. 1 Carlsbad police responded to an armed robbery that had just occurred in front of the Ultra Star Cinema located at 6941 El Camino Real in Carlsbad.
The victims were approached by a black adult male in his early 20s who asked them for a cigarette. When they gave him the cigarette he produced a pistol, pointed it at the two victims and demanded their wallets and cell phones. Both victims complied and then the suspect demanded their car keys. They refused to give the car keys and the suspect ran east toward the Dove Apartments located in the 1900 block of Dove Avenue.
The victims decided to give chase and caught up with the suspect. They tackled him and began removing their stolen property from the suspect. They were able to retrieve both of their wallets and one of the cell phones. The suspect then managed to get away from the victims and made a call on his own cell phone. A short time later, a Hispanic male in a black SUV arrived, exited his vehicle and began beating on the two victims to assist his companion in escaping. The Hispanic male and the black male left the area at a high rate of speed in the SUV.
The pistol was recovered in a trash can near the theaters. It was loaded with five rounds and the hammer was cocked.
The investigation is continuing.

So until the CBPD steps up some patrolling of shopping centers and starts targeting “those” people that travel south from O’side, are we as taxpaying Carlsbadians prepared to deal with this problem the city refuses to address?

su pesadilla, re “those” people to whom you are referring: where in this story does it indicate where the perpetrators came from? I don’t see Oceanside mentioned once. But, I get it: because they were black and hispanic, they HAD to be from Oceanside because Carlsbad doesn’t have any of “those” people living there. You dimwit racist.

Or could it be that su pesadilla might be right?
Like the story says, the investigation continues.

This happened right up against Aviara, my backyard. I personally don’t like seeing this nor do I want it in my part of town.

Don’t get your panties in a knot and stop looking for the boogie man in everything written.

anonymous, just answer this simple question: given the meager facts reported in the STORY, which presumably was the subject of su pesadilla’s comment, what evidence indicates the city of origin of the perpetrators?

There is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to indicate that, so the statement “‘those'(emphasis the writer’s) people that travel south from O’side” is completely a figment of the writer’s imagination. Why could the perpetrators not have been from Carlsbad? Or San Diego? or Boise? To answer your question, su pesadilla could be just as easily be wrong as right.

It’s called prejudice, as in pre-judging, and I’m happy to call it out whenever it shows its slimy face. Even in Carlsbad, where everyone knows crime doesn’t exist.

GreyMare October 10, 2009 at 7:40 am

Prejudice? And your point being?
Just like asses and noses, everyone has an opinion.
Who designated you policeman of the internet?

You can call out whatever you want but the fact remains there is prejudice in every walk of life and no amount of breast beating or electronic tongue lashing is going to stop it or change peoples minds. You call it slime but it’s reality – deal with it.

Personally speaking, I’ve sat outside La Costa Roasting having a morning cup and seen first hand some of the unsavory types driving through the parking lot. Considering what they drive, how they drive, and their outward appearance, they clearly aren’t from Carlsbad….and neither are you.

NCOside October 11, 2009 at 10:25 am

GreyMare, as is typical of right-wing reactionaries everywhere, it’s easier for you to attack than to deal with a non-issue.

A) I’ve lived in Carlsbad probably longer than you.

B) So, in your world, no actual evidence is required. If a person looks like he doesn’t belong, drives what you think is a suspicious car, maybe has a skin color you think is not in keeping with that of the general community, then that person clearly must be guilty of something inappropriate.

I guess you aren’t among the educated class in Carlsbad, but rather belong to that group of posers who think that a 92008 zip code makes them qualitatively better than others.

“A) I’ve lived in Carlsbad probably longer than you”
How provincial.
I was riding dirt bikes where La Costa now sits back in 1960, before it was zip code 92009, voting for JFK, and based on what you’ve put here, I think you’re full of crap.

Seriously, attempting to one up someone by indicating your zip code of residence, throwing education into the mix, or even stooping by tossing out political campaign slogans (right-wing reactionaries?) ranks right up there with buying your counterfeit Morey and trying to impress the groms at north Tamarack

Anonymous, you ought to learn to read. Your comprehension skills are underachieving.

Yes, right-wing reactionary is an appropriate description for someone who states that how someone looks, dresses or what they drive is indicative of where they belong.

Get over yourself.

Wow NCO, isn’t that something like the pot calling the kettle black?

You throw stones at someone for what they say here yet have the nerve to stand in judgement of what someone posts, resorting to name calling?

Thats pretty cowardly in anyones book.
