Young Carlsbad resident Lily Burke enjoyed having flowers bloom on her arm courtesy of Diana Stein at the Carlsbad Dove Library’s 10th anniversary celebration Sept. 25 at 1775 Dove Lane. Visitors celebrated with cake, live music and face/body painting in the Library’s courtyard. Highlights included music by guitarist Patrick Berrogain, children’s activities and then-and-now displays. In July 1956, the Carlsbad City Council officially established an independent city library system. In 1967, the Georgina Cole Carlsbad City Library opened. On Sept. 25, 1999, the Carlsbad City Library on Dove Lane opened, replacing the storefront La Costa branch established in 1984. Approximately 4,000 people attended the opening day of Carlsbad City Library on Dove Lane. So many people visited the library in the first days after it opened that books from the children’s section were virtually all checked out. Courtesy photo
