Approximately 500 “penguins” descended upon 17th Street beach in Del Mar on Jan. 1 to take part in the 26th annual Penguin Plunge. Upon completion of a plunge into the Pacific, swimmers were rewarded with hot beverages, donuts and a certificate courtesy of the Lifeguard Association and the Poseidon Restaurant.
