SAN MARCOS — Deputies received a radio call to conduct a welfare check at an apartment complex in the 600 block of S. Twin Oaks Valley Road.

Shortly after arriving on scene, deputies heard a female screaming. After being directed to the apartment by a witness, the deputies contacted a female at the front door who was determined to be the victim of a domestic violence related assault. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries.

The suspect, 37-year-old Garth Clem, was located inside the apartment. With the assistance of a Sheriff’s K-9, Clem was taken into custody and later treated at a local hospital.

It was later determined there were two additional victims of a sexual battery. Clem was booked into the Vista Detention Facility on the following charges: Assault with the intent to commit rape, false imprisonment, sexual battery, assault likely to produce great bodily injury or death, kidnapping and resisting arrest.

Detectives from the San Marcos Station are handling the follow up investigation, which is ongoing.
