Rockers stay busy with food drive

CARLSBAD — The one-of-a-kind, third annual Thanksgiving Punk Rock Food Drive is planned for Nov. 5 at Hensley’s Flying Elephant Pub, 850 Tamarack Ave. All proceeds from the event will benefit North County Community Services Food Bank.
The event will feature live performances by G.F.I., London’s Falling, Red Hand and the Burning of Rome. The show is for those 21 years and older, and will run from 5 p.m. to midnight. Admission is free with the donation of two canned or non‐perishable food items. There will be drink specials, prizes and giveaways including a Birdhouse skateboard deck autographed by skate legend Tony Hawk.
Collection bins will also be available at select locations in Carlsbad the week of the show. For more information, visit Punk Rock Food Drive was founded by Daniel Hernandez, Jason York and Chris Mazzola, members of local band Black Seven, with the goal of fostering community involvement among other artists and creative individuals.
“The idea has always been one of mutual encouragement. Our hope is not just that people will come to our events and support them by donating food, but that they will become inspired to organize their own events,” said co‐founder Jason York.
Previous events have featured performances by Black Seven but this year’s event will not following their unexpected breakup in August. “I’d definitely prefer to be playing at the event but I’m glad that there’s still an important purpose being served,” said organizer Chris Mazzola.
