Lancer Dancers support community

CARLSBAD — National Champions Carlsbad Lancer Dancers’ kick off the new school year by giving back to the community as they begin the road back to Nationals to defend their title.
Although the formal schedule of conditioning, rehearsals and fundraising has begun, none of the dancers really took the summer off.  All of the girls took advanced dance technique classes and were all involved community service. The Lancer Dancers held multiple food drives and volunteered hundreds of community service hours as a team. They have given their time to many causes, but have found a real passion for sharing their love of dance and giving back to children.
Team Captain Camille Posard and the Lancer Dancers recently became sponsors of a local chapter of Everybody Dance Now. Everybody Dance Now is a youth-run nonprofit organization that encourages free dance instruction to young people throughout the country. Its mission is to not only inspire young people through dance, but to empower them as agents of social change.
The team also teaches dance classes as a fundraiser to get to national competition in Florida. Sign ups for JR Lancer Dancer Classes are open. JR Lancer Dancer students, from kindergarten through eighth grade, can take weekly classes at Carlsbad High School taught by the Lancer Dancers.
The JR Lancer Dancers also get the opportunity to perform the Lancer Dancer Showcase Dec. 15 through Dec. 17 at the Carlsbad Community Center and other community events.
Sign-up forms are available for download at Lancer and space is limited so early sign ups are encouraged.
During the summer, the team donated their time to a group of military families at Camp Pendleton, keeping the children entertained and teaching dance while their parents attended a food distribution run by Hand UP Food Pantry.
“It was a toss-up as to who had more fun, the kids or us,” Posard said.
“We had a great time sharing our love of dance to kids who might not be able to afford dance lessons.”
