Padres, Ashford Univ. make time for storytime

SAN MARCOS — Jake Rowin, 3, his mom Jodi and his 11-month-old brother Trevor are huge fans of books and baseball, too.
Jake’s favorite Padre is Mat Latos, but he was no less excited to see Padres backstop Rob Johnson and the Friar at the San Marcos Public Library, reading to the kids and signing autographs afterwards.
The Padres, with Ashford University and parent company Bridgepoint Education, are using story time to help celebrate the presentation of $1,000 as part of the matching funds campaign to the San Diego County library branch.
“The library has a matching funds campaign going on right now,” said Colleen Baker, MLIS. “Every dollar that is donated is matched by the county and all the money goes towards materials for the collection,” she said.
“I’m excited to have the Padres here and supporting literacy,” said Angelica Fortin, the library’s branch manager.
The San Marcos branch is one of the busiest in the county, Baker said. The San Diego County Libraries have circulated 12.4 million items, including books, DVDs and CDs throughout San Diego, which makes them one of the busiest libraries in the country, and third busiest in California.
The San Marcos branch is at 2 Civic Center Drive.
