Guild supports art at local high schools

ENCINITAS — At a time when many schools must reduce art programs due to budget cuts and are hurting for basic art supplies, San Dieguito Art Guild, a nonprofit organization, has donated $300 to each of four local high schools’ art departments for a total $1,200.
The schools to benefit from San Dieguito Art Guild’s gift certificate program for art supplies are Sunset High, San Dieguito Academy, Canyon Crest Academy and La Costa Canyon. San Dieguito Art Guild’s mission is to promote the appreciation and understanding of the visual arts for its members and for the community of the San Dieguito Area.
The San Dieguito Art Guild will also be sponsoring its annual Mother’s Day Artists’ Studio and Garden Tour. The tour includes nine North San Diego County homes and is scheduled for May 7 and May 8.
The San Dieguito Art Guild, with 200 local artists, was organized in 1965 by a group of 12 enthusiastic artists who lived in the coastal cities from Del Mar to Leucadia. Their purpose was to promote greater understanding and appreciation of the fine arts.
After 45 years, the San Dieguito Art Guild has evolved into a nonprofit 501(c) 4, organization that operates a gallery and offers workshops for the community. The Its gallery is the Offtrack Gallery in the Lumberyard Shopping Center in downtown Encinitas. Last year, the board signed a five-year lease on this space.
The OffTrack Gallery is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. It features artwork from more than 100 local artists, including photography, digital artwork, jewelry, glass and mosaics, ceramics, hand painted gourds, weaving and traditional wall art in oil, pastels, acrylics and mixed media.
