Celebrities support Fresh Start fundraiser

CARLSBAD — Fresh Start Surgical Gifts, based in Carlsbad, hosted its 17th annual Fresh Start for Kids Celebrity Golf Classic and pre-tournament dinner March 15 and March 16 at Maderas Golf Club in Poway.
The two-day event raised more than $100,000 to help Fresh Start transform the lives of children with physical deformities through the gift of reconstructive surgery.
Co-hosts of the tournament were Alfonso Ribeiro, of Fox’s “Celebrity Duets” and who played Carlton on “Fresh Prince of Bel Air,” and Grant Show, who starred on “Melrose Place” and the CBS show, “Swingtown.” Former San Diego Charger Lorenzo Neal spoke at the pre-tournament dinner along with former Fresh Start patient and Army Specialist 4th Class, Robbie Day.
Other participating athletes included Marcus Allen, Marshall Faulk, David Justice, Leslie O’Neal, Mike Scifres, Seth Joyner, Andre Reed, John Carney and Junior Seau. Ursula Mayes, Sara Bronson and Lauren Shiohama, models from “Deal or No Deal,” also participated as celebrity golfers.
