U.S. Border Patrol agents intercept stolen computers from Del Mar

TEMECULA — U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Interstate 15 checkpoint arrested three men on the morning of Jan. 30 who were in possession of a projector and 30 stolen computers.

The incident occurred at around 3 a.m., when agents at the I-15 checkpoint encountered a 21-year-old male United States citizen driving a 1992 Lexus. During inspection, agents became suspicious of the driver’s nervous demeanor and referred him and his two male passengers for a secondary inspection.

A Border Patrol K-9 team performed a cursory inspection of the vehicle resulting in a positive alert to the interior. Agents searched the vehicle and discovered 29 Apple iPads, an Apple Macbook, and an Epson projector locked inside the trunk.

It was determined that the items belonged to the Del Mar Union School District. Agents also found bolt cutters, a rubber mallet, flashlights, and gloves.

Agents contacted the San Diego Police Department who indicated there had been an earlier break in at Del Mar Heights Elementary School. The three men were arrested. The suspects, computers, projector, and vehicle were turned over to the San Diego Police Department.
