Surfing dogs head to small screen

DEL MAR — Del Mar TV will be airing “Surfing Dogs 4 Life,” by producer Stephanie Sullivan, on the dog surfing event held in North County to raise money for the Helen Woodward Animal Center.
“Stephanie and the crew from the Del Mar TV Foundation made sure that Surf Dog was not just an event that happened to take place on the beach in Del Mar,” HWAC Public Relations Manager John Van Zante said. “They grabbed hold of it and made it into a Del Mar Event. That’s a special talent. Del Mar should be proud of them for their dedication to the community.”
DVDs are available for $20 at Del Mar TV. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to HWAC.
E-mail [email protected] or call (858) 481-2882 for details.

The winner in the Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon competition was “Buddy” accompanied by his owner Bruce Hooker. “Bandit The Biker Dog” and owner Mark Shaffer were also featured. This was Bandit’s final surfing event before losing his battle with cancer in December 2008.

“I had three videographers capture two days of surfing clinics and then the big day of the event,” Sullivan said. “We captured 12 hours of footage and I have been working with my co-producer/editor for the past several months to condense it down to a half-hour show. This story features several volunteer organizations and how the community comes together to help raise money so animals are not euthanized.”
