CARDIFF-BY-THE-SEA — The Sheriff’s Department recently sent out a composite sketch of a man who reportedly entered a woman’s apartment while she was sleeping and then fled after being spotted.

The incident occurred April 29 just after 3 a.m. in the 2200 block of Carol View Road.

The woman woke to the sound of footsteps. Moments later, she opened her eyes and saw an unidentified man standing near her bed. The man then fled in an unknown direction. Words weren’t exchanged between them at any point, according to Sheriff’s detective Shawn Silva.

Silva said detectives haven’t determined how the man made his way into the woman’s apartment. The woman wasn’t harmed during the incident.

The suspect is reportedly a 35-year-old Hispanic man, about 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing about 160 pounds with dark hair.

Those with information about the incident are asked to call Silva at 760-966-3500, or to remain anonymous, call the Crime Stoppers tip line at 888-580-8477.

Tips that lead to an arrest could bring an award of up to $1,000.
