Register now for Bike to Work month

COAST CITIES — May is Bike to Work Month and employers throughout the San Diego region are invited to take part in the fifth annual Bike to Work Corporate Challenge organized by the SANDAG iCommute program. Registration to participate in the competition is open through April 25.

From May 12 through May 16, participating organizations will receive one point for every eligible bike commute trip logged by an employee using the iCommute online TripTracker tool. In honor of National Bike to Work Day on May 16, employees who bike to work that day will help their employer earn double points.

Supporters believe that participating in the Corporate Challenge is a great way for organizations to meet green goals, encourage healthy commute alternatives, demonstrate community involvement or simply free up valuable parking space.

Participating organizations will be eligible for free employer services, including an on-site bike education class to get employees comfortable with riding. Employees who attend the class will receive certificates for free bike tune-ups at participating retailers.

Employers also are invited to host pit stops on Bike to Work Day. Pit stops are a great way for organizations to get involved with their local community by offering fun breaks for new and experienced bike riders to rest and pick up free T-shirts, snacks and encouragement at more than 90 locations around the county. The online application for to host a pit stop closes April 18.
