Portion of San Pasqual Valley Road closed for tree removal

SAN DIEGO — Caltrans Tree Maintenance Crews will close all lanes of state Route 78 (San Pasqual Valley Road) between Birch Avenue and Idaho Avenue May 2 through May 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to remove a 100-foot dying eucalyptus tree.

Motorists on eastbound San Pasqual Valley Road will be detoured right on Birch Avenue, then right on Bear Valley Parkway, another right on Idaho Avenue then left to eastbound San Pasqual Valley Road.  Westbound motorists will have the exact opposite detour.  Flaggers and a sign truck will be in place to assist drivers around the closure.

The tree was inspected by a Caltrans Arborist and discovered it had been stressed by the recent drought and infected by the Eucalyptus Tortoise Beetle.  The arborist concluded that the tree should be removed for safety reasons.

Crews will remove the branches first, then cut the tree in sections during the three-day closures.  Motorists and pedestrians are advised to steer clear of this area and to follow the posted detour.
