Carlsbad police make arrest in homicide

CARLSBAD — Police made an arrest in the suspicious death case of a woman found bleeding in a vehicle last Friday. 

Police arrested John Monta at a residence in the 2200 block of Dunlop Street in San Diego at 9:56 p.m. the same day.

Emergency crews responded to a 911 call at 4:24 p.m. from the area of 5814 Van Allen Way.

A vehicle in the parking lot contained a woman who was in need of medical attention. She was bleeding from the chest. The medical examiner’s office identified the woman as 24-year-old Joanne Javier.

Carlsbad Police and Fire Department units responded to the location. At 4:33 p.m., Carlsbad Fire personnel made contact with Javier, where she was declared deceased. The cause of death was listed as an incised wound of the neck. She also sustained stab wounds of the neck, torso and upper extremities, according to the medical examiner’s report.

Monta was transported to the Carlsbad Police station for processing. He was booked into the Vista Detention Facility on one count of homicide.
